Dr Kaufman presented his work on the efficacy and safety for using topical betadine to eradicate persister cells in chronic suppurative otitis media. While it has in vitro efficacy it, unfortunately fails in vivo. Dr Schiel presented her work looking at the CXCR3 receptor in macrophages and whether it mediated macrophage associated hearing loss in chronic suppurative otitis media. Both of these presentations were important in trying to discuss why we lose hearing in CSOM and how we can potentially treat it.
